Questions for the Doctors

You’re met with compassion and get medications like Suboxone, Methadone or Vivitrol on your first visit. Both the doctors and pharmacy are on-site. You check in with your medical team to adjust doses or add mental health medications like antidepressants. You also get unlimited one-on-one therapy and access to intensive group theory when you’re feeling ready.

Suboxone is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It’s FDA-approved to treat opioid / heroin addiction.

  • Buprenorphine is a partial opioid that satisfies the brain’s craving for drugs.
  • Naloxone is an opioid blocker used to reverse an overdose.

Suboxone works to:

  • Alleviate withdrawal symptoms – to feel better right away
  • Fight cravings – so the brain isn’t constantly signaling for drugs
  • Stop other opioids – so if drugs like heroin are used, it doesn’t give off a “high”

The official answer is no, you shouldn’t drink alcohol while on Vivitrol. Vivitrol blocks the feelings of pleasure that you get from alcohol. Though, you still feel negative symptoms like poor coordination and hangovers. Patients tend to get sicker than usual because they end up binging more to chase the positive effects that never come. (You can overdose on alcohol). In the end, Vivitrol should make drinking less appealing if you do try it because you’ll just feel sick.

Unlimited therapy means you can schedule as many appointments with your therapist as you need to stay on track.

Both IOP and one-on-one sessions predominantly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is the gold standard for addiction issues. You become able to recognize distortions in your thinking and reevaluate them in a healthy way. As needed, therapists utilize other methods like Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) for intensely difficult feelings, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to stop negative thinking rather than analyzing it, trauma-informed therapies or family or couples counseling.

The options for methadone in Will and Kendall counties are limited. Symetria’s methadone clinic in Joliet, IL is certainly the highest-rated clinic in the area.

There are no long lines. And, you can actually be honest here. There’s no judgment if you relapse. You have access to unlimited counseling and medications for underlying issues to stay on track — all in-network with health insurances like BCBS IL, United Health, etc.

Family members often inquire before discussing with the person struggling. You can get program and cost details to help you address any objections your loved one may have to avoid treatment. You are also welcome to come with them. Family of couples therapy can be part of their therapy too, if they are open to it.
