What is Intensive Outpatient Treatment?

Recovery shouldn’t mean choosing between getting help and keeping everything you’ve worked for. Your job, your family, the life you’re fighting to hold onto.

Our intensive outpatient program in Chicago gives you real treatment while you keep living your life.

Three mornings a week, you’ll be in a room with people who understand what you’re going through, guided by counselors who’ve helped hundreds of people get through this.

When your session ends, you go home to your family.

Is IOP Right for You?

We built our Chicago IOP program for people who need real support but have too much on the line to step away. IOP might be right for you if:

Weekly therapy isn't enough, but you can't leave home for 30 days
You just finished detox or inpatient and need ongoing support
You have a safe place to go home to each night
You can commit to 3 sessions per week
You're not looking for a quick fix. You're ready to put in the time.

Not sure if IOP is the right level of care?

Our clinical team will help you figure out what fits.

What's included
in our Chicago IOP program

Every session combines proven therapies with peer support. Here’s what you get:

Unlimited 1:1 Therapy
Meet one-on-one with your counselor as often as you want, not just once a week. Go deeper on the things that matter most to you.
Group Therapy
Small groups of 12 or less. Everyone gets a chance to speak, be heard, and be understood. Led by licensed counselors.
Skills Training
Practical tools for managing cravings, stress, and high-risk situations in your daily life.

Psychiatrist Access
Our psychiatrists help treat the underlying causes - not just the addiction - so you can heal more completely.
Case Management
Help with the logistics: insurance questions, referrals, paperwork. We handle the stuff that gets in the way of your recovery.
Family Sessions
Optional sessions to rebuild trust and improve communication with loved ones.

MAT Coordination
If you're currently on Suboxone® or Methadone, we'll build your IOP treatment around your medication.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does IOP mean?

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) offer a supportive environment in an outpatient setting, so patients can continue living their lives while seeking recovery.

How long does IOP last?
Most patients are in IOP for 4-12 weeks, though treatment takes as long as you need. Unlike inpatient programs limited to 30 days, you can stay as long as you want or feel you need to.
Can I work while in IOP?

Yes. That's the point. We offer morning and evening sessions so you can fit treatment around your schedule. Virtual options are available too.

What if I fail a drug test?

You won't be kicked out. Drug tests here measure how well treatment is working, not whether you "deserve" to stay. If you slip, we're here to support you through it and adjust your treatment so you can keep moving forward.

Is IOP covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans cover IOP. Call 866-287-5921 or use our online tool to check your coverage in minutes.

Can I do IOP while on Suboxone® (buprenorphine) or methadone?

Absolutely. Many of our IOP patients are also in MAT. We coordinate your care so everything works together.

What’s the difference between IOP and regular outpatient?

IOP is more intensive: 3 days per week, 3+ hours per session. Standard outpatient is typically 1 day per week, 1-2 hours.

How do I get admitted?

Call 866-287-5921 to schedule your first appointment, which can be the same day. Then, all you have to do is show up. And keep showing up.
