What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured addiction treatment program. You attend several hours of clinical counseling a few days a week while living at home. At our Spring clinic, you come in three times a week, about nine hours total, and sleep in your own bed every night.

Sessions include group counseling and one-on-ones with your counselor, plus skills practice for when cravings or stress hit hardest.

Each group has 12 patients or fewer, led by a counselor licensed in Texas. You will sit alongside neighbors from all over the region: The Woodlands parents, Oak Ridge North commuters, Conroe workers, and Imperial Oaks residents.

What Happens Each Session:
Group counseling (12 patients or fewer) One-on-one check-in or skills practice Progress review and goal-setting
Duration Note: Most people finish nine to 12 weeks. But there’s no deadline. You and your counselor decide when you’re ready to step down or stay longer.
Need to switch to weekly outpatient care?
Talk to your Spring counselor when you are ready. You decide together when to move to weekly outpatient treatment based on your progress in recovery.

Is an IOP Right for You?

An IOP fills the gap between weekly counseling and leaving home for treatment. IOP might be right for you if:

You can fit three mornings or evenings into your week.
You can’t take time off work or family.
You need more than once-a-week outpatient counseling.
You finished detox or residential treatment and need ongoing clinical care.
You have a steady place to come home to.
You are managing depression, anxiety, or trauma alongside opioid use.

Not sure if an IOP is the right level of care?

You’ll talk through your history with a counselor and medical provider. If a different level of care fits better, we’ll tell you.

Spring IOP: Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

An IOP is a substance use treatment program. It combines several hours of group and individual counseling each week into a fixed schedule, with no overnight stay. At our Spring clinic, that means three sessions a week, nine hours of counseling, while you keep living at home.

How does the program work week to week?

Each week you attend three sessions. Mornings run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM. A virtual evening session runs Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:30 PM to 8:45 PM. Each session starts with a check-in, moves into group counseling, then skills practice or one-on-one time.

How long is each IOP session, and how much time does it take each week?

Each session runs about three hours, for a total of nine hours a week across your three sessions. Mornings finish by 12:15 PM, so you keep the rest of your day. In addition to your three weekly sessions, you can book unlimited one-on-one counseling with your counselor.

What is the difference between inpatient treatment and an IOP?

Inpatient programs require you to live at a residential facility for 28 to 90 days. Our Spring IOP, on the other hand, lets you stay home, with three sessions a week and nine hours of counseling at our clinic. An IOP works if you have a steady place to come home to.

What if I miss an IOP session?

Call our team at (866) 955-2481 as soon as you can. We help you reschedule into another session or set up a one-on-one catch-up so you do not fall behind. Missing a session is part of life, and the team plans around it with you.

What happens after I finish an IOP at your Spring clinic?

You step down to weekly counseling or less frequent check-ins. You and your counselor decide together. The same team stays with you. You can stay in IOP longer if you need it. No set deadline.

How do I know if an IOP is right for me?

An IOP may be a good fit if any of these sound like you. You have tried counseling every week, and it is not getting you where you want to be. Your week has room for three mornings or three evenings, but not 28 to 90 days of residential treatment. You finished detox or inpatient and want continued care. Call (866) 955-2481 to talk it through.

Does insurance cover the IOP at your Spring clinic?

Most commercial insurance and Medicare plans cover IOPs. The IOP billing code is the same regardless of clinic location, so coverage depends on your plan’s outpatient mental health benefits. Call (866) 955-2481 with your insurance card, and our team verifies benefits in minutes.

Can I attend an IOP while taking Methadone or Suboxone® at your Spring clinic?

You can take Methadone or Suboxone® and attend an IOP session at the same Spring clinic. Your counselor and medical provider coordinate your medication and your group schedule together. You are never running two separate programs across two places.

How do I start IOP at your Spring clinic?

Call (866) 955-2481 to set up an assessment, which is often scheduled for the same day or the next day. A counselor and medical provider review your history and confirm an IOP is the right level of care. They place you in the next morning or virtual evening group. Admissions staff answer 24/7.

Looking into an IOP for Someone You Love?

If your loved one has turned down residential treatment, an IOP may be the right conversation to start. Call us and we’ll help you figure out how to bring it up.
