You come to our clinic at The Star often at first while you and our medical team find the right dose. As your medication becomes steady, you can move to take-home doses and come to Frisco less often, which helps if you drive in from Prosper, Little Elm, or Celina. Our medical team approves each step once it is safe.

Suboxone® only partly activates the same brain receptors as opioids, and it has a built-in limit, so taking more does not increase the effect. Take-home doses become available once your dose is steady. Methadone fully activates those receptors, is dispensed at the clinic each day, and can suit a higher opioid tolerance. Our medical team helps you choose between them at intake.

As part of treatment, our team uses point-of-care drug testing to confirm that buprenorphine is being taken as prescribed. That information is part of your medication record. If you want it shared with a referral source, we can release it on your written request and with a valid release of information on file.

Buprenorphine-based medications, including Suboxone®, are considered appropriate treatment options for opioid use disorder during pregnancy. Continuing treatment matters, because untreated opioid use disorder carries serious risks for both mother and baby. Our medical team coordinates with your OB-GYN.

Suboxone® eases cravings and withdrawal, but the patterns and triggers behind drug use need a different kind of support. Counseling is part of every treatment plan, and you can add our virtual evening IOP from home for more support without changing clinics.

The most common side effects are constipation, headache, sweating, and mild nausea, especially in the first few weeks as your dose adjusts. Less common are trouble sleeping and dental issues over time, which regular dental visits help prevent. Tell our medical team about anything new.

Patients in Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, and Little Elm can start treatment close to home instead of driving into Dallas. If you are already on Suboxone® elsewhere, bring your current prescription details and recent records, and our medical team coordinates a smooth transfer. Take-home doses make the trips even less frequent as you stabilize.
