What is Naltrexone Treatment?

Naltrexone works differently than most people expect. It doesn’t make you sick if you drink. It doesn’t sedate you. It blocks the “reward” – the good feeling alcohol gives you.

At our Naltrexone clinic in Chicago, we’ve seen what happens when that reward disappears: people stop thinking about drinking all day. They stop planning their evenings around it. They start focusing on new goals and behavior change.

FDA-Approved

for alcohol use disorder since 1994

Daily Pill Medication

Non-addictive and proven effective

Tired of thinking about drinking all day?

Whether to have one, how many, when to stop. It's exhausting. Naltrexone quiets that noise.

How Naltrexone Works

Naltrexone doesn't make you sick if you drink. It just makes drinking less rewarding. Here's how it helps:

01

Blocks the "Reward"

Naltrexone blocks the endorphins released when you drink, so alcohol doesn't feel as good.

02

Reduces Cravings

Over time, your brain stops associating alcohol with pleasure. Cravings quiet down.

03

You Regain Control

You think about drinking less. Then less. Then barely at all.

Is Naltrexone Right for You?

Not everyone needs Naltrexone. But if any of these sound familiar, it might help:

Cravings are your main problem and willpower isn't enough
You've tried to quit before but kept coming back to drinking
You'd rather take a pill than fight your brain every day
AA or "just talking" hasn't been enough on its own
You're tired of waking up with regret and wondering what you said or did last night

Not sure if Naltrexone is right for you?

Our medical providers can help you decide based on your drinking history and goals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How quickly can I start Naltrexone treatment?

Same-day appointments are available. Call 866-287-5921 anytime and we'll get you scheduled as soon as possible.

Can I drink while taking Naltrexone?

You can, but it won't feel the same. Naltrexone blocks the pleasurable effects of alcohol, so drinking becomes less appealing over time. That's actually how it works.

Will Naltrexone make me feel sick if I drink?

No. You're thinking of Antabuse (disulfiram), which does make you sick if you drink. Naltrexone just blocks the "reward" so drinking becomes less satisfying.

Do I have to be completely sober before starting?

No. You can start Naltrexone while still drinking. That's actually how many people begin - the medication helps you drink less over time.

What if Naltrexone doesn’t work for me?

We'll work with you to find what does. Sometimes it takes adjusting the approach or combining medication with more intensive therapy. We don't give up.

Do I need to go to AA too?

No. AA works for some people, but it's not required. We offer evidence-based treatment with medication and therapy. You decide what works for you.

Will my employer find out?

Not from us. Everything is confidential and HIPAA protected. We don't contact anyone without your explicit written permission.
