What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

An IOP is structured addiction treatment held several hours each week. Most of it is group therapy led by a licensed counselor, with private sessions added whenever you need them.

Frequency makes the program intensive. Meeting consistently keeps you on track as you build coping skills and address what drives your use.

At our Fort Worth clinic, groups stay capped at 12 people, and the mornings and virtual evenings are timed so that treatment fits into a working week.

Our Fort Worth IOP is the right level of care for some situations. It is likely a fit if:

You have outgrown weekly counseling but cannot step away for residential care.
You recently finished detox or inpatient and want to keep the momentum.
You have a stable, sober place to return to at the end of each day.
You can attend a few mornings or evenings a week, in person or online.
You want group support and private counseling as part of your plan.
You are ready to put in the work recovery takes.

Not everyone who calls needs an IOP, and we will say so if a lighter option fits you better. A short assessment settles it.

How Our Fort Worth IOP Is Built Differently

Recovery is hard enough on its own. These five choices are what keep you showing up week after week:

Day or Evening
You choose morning in-person or evening virtual groups, so work hours do not decide your recovery.
Same Faces
You see the same small group and counselor each time, so trust builds instead of resetting.
One Clinic
Your counseling, groups, and any medication run through a single Fort Worth location.
Room for Setbacks
A return to use changes your plan, not your place in the program.
Medication Coordination
Your IOP visits and your medication dosing stay on one coordinated schedule here.

Fort Worth IOP: Frequently Asked Questions

What is an IOP?

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured level of care you attend on a set schedule while living at home. It is designed for group therapy plus individual counseling, and it gives you far more support than a single weekly session.

How is an IOP different from standard outpatient?

The difference is intensity. An IOP runs several hours a session, a few days a week, and leans on group work. Standard outpatient is usually one visit a week. Many people step down from an IOP to outpatient as they stabilize.

Can I keep working during the Fort Worth IOP?

Most people keep working the whole way through. With in-person mornings and virtual evenings, you hold a job and still attend the full program, which is the whole reason our IOP exists.

Are there evening or online options?

Our Fort Worth IOP runs a virtual evening track for people who work days, alongside the in-person morning groups. You choose whichever fits your week.

What happens if I use during the program?

You stay in the program. A positive test tells your counselor the plan needs adjusting, not that you have lost your place. We change what is not working and keep going with you.

Can I be in IOP while on Methadone or Suboxone®?

Plenty of our IOP patients are also on medication. We line up your Fort Worth IOP with your Methadone or Suboxone® dosing so that the two support each other in one clinic.

How many weeks does an IOP take?

It varies by person, usually a few weeks to a few months. There is no fixed cutoff, and you step down to lighter care once you are steady rather than on a set date.

How do I start?

Call 866-955-2481 to book your first appointment, often the same day. After a short intake, you join the next group, and from there you keep showing up.

Will my job or family find out I am in IOP?

Your treatment is confidential and protected by HIPAA. We do not contact your employer, and the morning and virtual evening scheduling lets you attend without explaining where you are. What you share in group stays in the room.

What happens after I finish an IOP?

You do not stop all at once. As you stabilize, you step down to lighter outpatient counseling, and you can keep individual sessions or medication support going for as long as they help. The goal is a plan that holds once the structured weeks are behind you.
