IOP Program in Chicago

What’s Included in the IOP Program

Every session at Symetria Recovery in Des Plaines combines counselor-led group work with ongoing support that goes around it. Here’s what you get:

Unlimited 1:1 Counseling
Sit down with your counselor as often as you need. Work through what is driving the use, not just what happened.
Small-Group Counseling
Twelve people or fewer. Everyone speaks, everyone is heard. Led by counselors licensed in Illinois.
Skills Workshops
Practical tools for cravings, stress, and high-risk situations you will actually face this week.
Psychiatry Access
Depression, anxiety, and trauma often sit underneath drug use. Our on-site psychiatry team treats both at once, so you don’t bounce between providers.
Case Management
We handle the paperwork: insurance verification, referrals, employer letters and other logistics that get in the way of treatment.
Family Sessions
We offer optional sessions to rebuild trust and improve communication with the people who matter in your life.
MOUD Coordination
If you are on methadone or Suboxone® (buprenorphine), our program and your medication treatment work together at the same clinic.

What a Typical IOP Session Looks Like

12:00pm

Wrap-Up

Wrap up by setting goals for the next few days, and head out by 12:15pm.

Evening Note: Evening sessions begin after the workday and follow the same structure as morning blocks. Some sessions can be virtual when in-person does not work.

How Symetria’s IOP is Different from Other Des Plaines Programs

Some outpatient programs discharge patients who keep using, cap counseling, or send you to a separate clinic for MOUD. Our IOP doesn’t.

Small Groups
Meet in groups of twelve or fewer, where you will not get lost in the room.
Unlimited Counseling
Sit down with your counselor as often as you want, not on a fixed cadence.
No Arbitrary Discharge
Stay in treatment even if you continue to use; we treat that as clinical information, not cause for discharge.
MOUD-Friendly
Coordinate your methadone or Suboxone® (buprenorphine) with your IOP at the same clinic.
Modern Facility
Have your sessions in a comfortable, professional medical environment in Metropolitan Plaza.

Des Plaines IOP: Frequently Asked Questions

What does IOP in Des Plaines mean?

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is structured group and individual counseling delivered in an outpatient setting. The program runs three weekdays a week so you can keep working while you recover.

How long does IOP last in Des Plaines?

Most patients enroll in the program for nine to twelve weeks, though care lasts as long as you need. Unlike inpatient programs that cap at 30 days, we don’t put any restrictions for our patients as we focus on the outcome, which is recovery, not how long it takes for you to get there.

Can I keep working while in IOP?

Yes, that is exactly how we have structured our program. Group sessions run in the morning and in the evening on weekdays only, so you can go to work or school.

What if I continue to use or return to use during IOP?

You will not be removed from treatment at our clinic. We are here to support you and adjust the plan as needed, not to punish you. Drug screens are clinical information, not a test you pass or fail. We do everything in our power to help you get better.

Is IOP at the Des Plaines clinic covered by insurance?

Most commercial plans and Medicare cover IOP. Coverage varies by plan. Call us at 866-955-2481 or use the online tool, and our team verifies your benefits in minutes.

Can I do the Des Plaines IOP while taking methadone or Suboxone®?

Yes, many patients in the program also receive medications for opioid use disorder. We coordinate everything in the same clinic, so your dosing schedule and your group sessions run together.

What is the difference between IOP in Des Plaines and standard outpatient?

IOP is more intensive than a standard outpatient program. IOP meets three weekdays a week with nine hours of counseling, while standard outpatient is a single weekly check-in. IOP works for people who need more structured support; outpatient fits steadier weeks.

How do I get into the Des Plaines IOP?

Call 866-955-2481 to schedule an intake assessment, available Monday through Thursday until 3pm and Friday before noon. After the assessment, you are scheduled into your first session.
