What Is Intensive Outpatient Treatment?

Our Joliet IOP is the only Symetria location in Will and Kendall counties. The closest alternative is more than 30 minutes away.

You attend sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM. That is nine hours of counseling per week. You can finish by 12:15 PM and head to a noon shift in Plainfield or Shorewood without missing work.

You sit in groups of twelve patients or fewer, led by counselors licensed in Illinois with years of addiction recovery experience. The patients next to you come from Plainfield, Lockport, Channahon, and Crest Hill. They understand what your week looks like.

After each session, you drive home to Lockport, New Lenox, or Crest Hill. You sleep in your own bed every night, with your family and your routines. The program supports your recovery while you keep living your life.

Is an IOP Right for You?

We built the program for adults who need real support during the day and a stable home to come back to at night. You might be right for an IOP if:

You want stronger support than weekly counseling while staying close to home.
You finished inpatient or detox and need ongoing clinical care.
You go home each night to a safe place in the southwest suburbs.
You can fit three Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning sessions around your work schedule.
Morning sessions fit your week better than evening sessions.
You need consistent weekly support to make progress.

Not sure if an IOP is what you need?

At your intake, you and our clinical team will talk about your history together. If outpatient care or a more intensive partial hospitalization program (PHP) would serve you better, we will tell you.

What’s Included in Our Joliet IOP Program

At every IOP session, you join group counseling. You also receive unlimited one-on-one counseling, psychiatry, and case management as part of the program.

Unlimited One-on-One Counseling
Sit with your counselor as often as you need to work through what is behind the use.
Small-Group Counseling
Join counseling with 11 other patients or fewer. A licensed counselor leads each session and allows everyone to speak and listen.
Skills Workshops
Learn practical ways to handle cravings, stress, and tough moments you will face this week.
Psychiatry Access

MOUD Coordination
Coordinate your IOP with your methadone or Suboxone® (buprenorphine-naloxone) treatment at the same clinic.

How Our IOP Is Different from Other Joliet Programs

Some IOPs in this part of Chicagoland still remove patients from treatment for continued use, limit your one-on-one counseling, or refer you out for MOUD. Our Joliet IOP keeps you in treatment, offers unlimited one-on-one counseling, and prescribes MOUD on-site.

Small Groups
Sit in a group of twelve patients or fewer. Each participant has a chance to speak at every session, while everyone else listens.
Unlimited Counseling
Book unlimited one-on-one counseling sessions the same week you sign up for the program.
Continued Care
Stay in treatment even if you keep using. Your medical provider and counselor adjust the plan based on how you are doing.
MOUD-Friendly
Get methadone or Suboxone® treatment in the same clinic as your IOP. One intake, one referral, and one insurance check cover both programs.
Discreet Entry
Park on-site and walk in through a discreet entrance. Group rooms and the counseling office sit on the second floor of our Hammes Avenue building.

Joliet IOP: Frequently Asked Questions

What does an IOP at your Joliet clinic mean?

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a type of clinical care between full-time residential treatment and weekly outpatient treatment. You attend nine hours of counseling per week every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. The schedule fits around your job and family.

How long does an IOP last?

Nine to twelve weeks is the typical length, but there is no set end date. If you need more time, you stay. If your medical provider and counselor see steady progress at week eight, you may switch to outpatient. You finish when your recovery is steady.

Can I keep working while in IOP?

Yes, you can work while in IOP. Sessions are mornings only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, finishing by 12:15 PM. Most of our patients work in construction, manufacturing, healthcare, and education in Will County. You can head straight to a noon to 8:00 PM or 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM shift after sessions.

What if I continue to use or return to use during an IOP?

You stay in the program even if you keep using or return to substance use. You and your medical provider work through what to change next. Our Joliet IOP supports you when you need it most.

Is an IOP at your Joliet clinic covered by insurance?

Yes, most commercial insurance and Medicare plans cover IOPs. We verify your benefits before your first session, usually a few minutes by phone. Call 866-955-2481 with your insurance card handy or use the online insurance form.

Can I join an IOP at your Joliet clinic while taking methadone or Suboxone®?

Yes, many of our IOP patients are on methadone or Suboxone®. Both treatments happen at the same clinic, so you can attend dosing and group sessions on the same trip.

What is the difference between an IOP and standard outpatient treatment?

With an IOP, you attend three weekday mornings for nine total hours of counseling each week. With standard outpatient care, you attend one visit each week. An IOP supports early or middle recovery; standard outpatient care supports the steady weeks after.

How do I get into a Joliet IOP?

Call 866-955-2481 to schedule an intake assessment, available Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturday from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM. After the assessment, you are scheduled into your first IOP session.

What happens if I miss a session of an IOP at your Joliet clinic?

You stay in treatment if you miss a session. Call your counselor or the clinic at 866-955-2481 to reschedule. If you miss sessions repeatedly, your care team will work with you to adjust the plan.

What should I expect on my first day at the Joliet IOP?

You start with an intake assessment with our clinical team. After the assessment, you join your first group session that same week if you want. Plan to spend about three hours at the clinic each session day.
