Once a patient is opioid free, Vivitrol® may be used to prevent relapse.

It is administered through injection. The active ingredient in Vivitrol® is naltrexone. Naltrexone works as a “blocker”, blocking the brain from the pleasurable feelings associated with taking opioids 1.

The median Vivitrol® patient had confirmed abstinence for 90% of the weeks in the evaluation period vs 35% for the median placebo patient.

Possible side effects: Vivitrol® may cause severe injection site reactions. Call us right away if you notice any of the following at your injection site:

  5. Blisters
  6. An open wound
  7. A dark scab

WARNING: Do not use opioids when using Vivitrol®. Using opioids in the amounts you used before starting Vivitrol® treatment, or even lower amounts, could lead to overdose or death.

Other side effects may include:

  1. Nausea
  2. Tiredness
  3. Headache
  4. Dizziness
  5. Vomiting
  6. Decreased appetite
  7. Painful joints and muscle cramps.

When using Vivitrol® for opioid dependence, you may experience:

  1. Cold-like symptoms
  2. Trouble Sleeping
  3. Toothache

Methadone reduces withdrawal symptom from heroin addiction.

Methadone is an opioid medication that reduces withdrawal symptoms in people addicted to heroin or other narcotic drugs without causing the “high” associated with the drug addiction. Through our program, Methadone is administered by dissolving the tablet in water or a non-alcoholic citrus beverage, which is ingested immediately.

Methadone has been the main tool in the arsenal for combating addiction for over 50 years.

Possible Side Affects

  3. Weak or shallow breathing
  4. Severe constipation
  5. Light-headedness
  6. Infertility or missed menstrual periods
  7. Impotence, sexual problems, loss of interest in sex
  8. Low cortisol levels

Other side effects may include:

  1. Dizziness
  2. Drowsiness;
  3. Nausea and vomiting
  4. Increased sweating

WARNING: Methadone may cause a life-threatening heart rhythm disorder. You should not use methadone if you have severe asthma or breathing problems, or a bowel obstruction called paralytic ileus.
