Everything You Want To Know
MAT stands for Medication-Assisted Treatment. MAT involves the use of methadone or Suboxone, combined with therapy to treat opioid addiction. MAT is recommended by every major health organization – including the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Suboxone satisfies the part of the brain that craves opioids and causes withdrawal symptoms. It helps patients feel better by stopping the brain from signaling for drugs. But, Suboxone doesn’t give off a “high” and the risk of overdose is almost none because Suboxone is only a partial opioid. It doesn’t fully activate the opioid receptors in the brain, but fits just enough to satisfy the receptor. And, if drugs like heroin, OxyContin or Vicodin are used, they can’t attach to these opioid receptors because the Suboxone is blocking it. The drugs can’t give off the “high” feeling, so there won’t be much motivation to continue using.

Vivitrol is a monthly shot that helps prevent or lessen cravings for drugs or alcohol. The medication blocks opioid receptors in the brain. (Non-opioids like alcohol, meth and cocaine interact with opioid receptors even though they aren’t made to attach directly). By blocking opioid receptors, drugs and alcohol no longer activate reward centers in the brain. If alcohol or drugs are used, they give negative hangover-type symptoms without the positive high feelings. There’s little motivation to continue using drugs or drinking alcohol while on Vivitrol. Vivitrol (naltrexone) is non-addictive, does not cause withdrawal symptoms when stopped and doesn’t require taking any medication at home. It’s a great choice to make staying sober so much easier.
Fair question. Most people here use health insurance. IOP is covered by most policies, including BCBS of Texas, Cigna, Aetna and Humana. Though, we are not able to accept Medicare or Medicaid (yet). Your cost with insurance depends on your deductible. Usually, this is a reasonably low amount, but we check your specific policy and let you know any costs before you come in.
You can, of course, self-pay for treatment here too. It’s much more affordable than inpatient rehab. The problem with quoting one standard price online is that patients often want want other services. For example, someone actively using opioids like heroin or pain pills will want to detox (outpatient) before starting IOP. Many alcohol-only patients are also interested in medications like Vivitrol or anti-depressants. Let’s talk about what’s going on and what you’re looking for, so you can get clear upfront pricing. Call now (we’re not scary).
