At Symetria Recovery, our outpatient only care includes medication therapy, talk therapy, and aftercare support. If you live in Texas or Illinois, you could benefit from our effective alcohol treatment programs. However, after your initial recovery program, you may still need continuing care to help you complete your transition to sober living.
At Symetria Recovery, we are continuously working to improve our care model. Our methodology places great emphasis on sober living support during and after your outreach program. This type of continuing care gives you access to a multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, counselors, and psychiatrists. These team members help you prevent relapse by focusing on rebuilding your life.
Sober Activities for Summer Fun
With a little thought, you could come up with your own list of fun things to do that don’t involve alcohol. Meanwhile, try some of these fun sober activities:
Backpacking and Hiking
Hiking and backpacking provide exercise and a great way to see the countryside. As part of your recovery, it’s important to eat right and get plenty of exercise to help rebuild your body. If you live near mountains or forests, it may be easy to find a place to hike. If you live in the city, you can always start by exploring walking paths at local parks.
Visit the Beach or Community Pool
Whether you’re looking for a leisurely activity or a way to get into shape quickly, swimming is a great choice. If you live near a lake or beach, you can enjoy scenic views as you swim in the cool water. Unfortunately, traveling with friends to the beach can become complicated. They may not understand why you can’t be around alcohol, and you may not want to put that pressure on them. Instead, consider inviting a family member or sober support friend to enjoy a day by the water without alcohol.
Writing, Journaling, or Reading
You can get as ambitious as you want with these hobbies. If you love to read, consider finding a summer reading list and working through as many books as you can. If you enjoy writing, consider journaling or writing down your experiences with alcohol use disorder and recovery. This is a great way to work out any lingering feelings that may hold back your full recovery.
Work it Out
Joining a local gym can provide a great outlet when you feel frustrated or need to stay focused on something positive. You don’t have to pump iron to benefit from the classes and equipment available at most gyms. As long as you get your body moving, working out can help relieve the stresses in your life. Consider taking a yoga class to quiet your mind or join a CrossFit gym to challenge yourself — whichever angle works best for you.
