Three evenings a week, fully online

What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

An IOP is therapy you attend on set days, with no overnight stay. You get group and one-on-one counseling three times a week while living at home. At our Frisco clinic, all sessions are online evenings, from 5:30 to 8:45, done by bedtime. Getting help should not mean giving up your job, your weeknights, or time with your family.

Sessions run three evenings a week, entirely online from home. You join a video room of 12 patients or fewer: Collin County professionals, parents from Allen and Prosper, and young adults balancing school and work. A counselor licensed in Texas leads every session.

9+ Hours

of structured counseling each week, all in the evening

Evidence-Based

Counselor-led group approaches and individual sessions with a strong research base

Online does not mean on your own.

The same small group and counselor meet every session, so people know you and notice when you go quiet.

What Happens Each Session:
Counselor-led group counseling (12 patients or fewer) Individual counseling and psychoeducation Coping skills and peer support
Duration Note: Most people finish nine to 12 weeks. But there’s no deadline. You and your counselor decide when you’re ready to step down or stay longer.
Going somewhere? Bring the program with you.
Every session is virtual, so a work trip or a move across DFW never has to interrupt your treatment.

Is an IOP Right for You?

This program is best for adults who need more support than weekly counseling but cannot leave their work and family for residential treatment. Virtual evening IOP might be right for you if:

You work days and need treatment at night.
You can’t take 30 days off work or family.
You need more than once-a-week counseling.
You finished detox/inpatient and want ongoing care.
You have a private, steady place to join sessions from.
You live too far from a physical clinic for three in-person sessions a week.

Not sure this fits?

At intake, our team will tell you if weekly outpatient care or a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) suits you better.

Frisco IOP: Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

IOP is therapy you attend on set days, with no overnight stay. You get group and one-on-one counseling three times a week while living at home. At our Frisco clinic, all sessions are online in the evening, from 5:30 to 8:45.

Is the Frisco IOP in person or virtual?

Our Frisco IOP runs entirely online in the evening, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:30 PM to 8:45 PM. We designed it that way for working professionals and families in Collin County. Evening virtual sessions let you keep your job and your routine while still getting nine hours of counseling a week. If you need daytime or in-person sessions, we can point you to another Symetria clinic.

How does the Frisco IOP work week to week?

You attend three virtual sessions a week: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:30 PM to 8:45 PM. Each session blends group therapy, individual counseling, psychoeducation, and skills practice. Outside of group counseling, you can schedule unlimited one-on-one sessions with your counselor.

How long does an IOP last?

Most patients complete our IOP in nine to twelve weeks, but there is no set end date. You can stay longer if you need to. When you are ready, you step down to weekly outpatient care, a decision you and your counselor make together.

What is the difference between inpatient, PHP, and an IOP?

Inpatient and partial hospitalization programs involve more hours and, for inpatient, living at a facility. An IOP gives you at least nine hours of care a week while you stay home. It is the middle ground that lets you keep your routine while still getting intensive support.

Can I join an IOP through your Frisco clinic while taking Methadone or Suboxone®?

You can take Methadone or Suboxone® and attend the virtual IOP through the same Frisco clinic. Your counselor and our medical team coordinate your medication and counseling so that both work together.

What do I need for a virtual IOP session?

You need a private space and a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and internet. Our team helps you log in before your first session. If connectivity is a barrier, call (866) 955-2481 and we will work through options with you.

Does insurance cover the Frisco IOP?

Most commercial insurance and Medicare plans cover IOPs, including virtual sessions. Coverage depends on your plan’s outpatient mental health benefits. Call (866) 955-2481 with your insurance card, and our billing team verifies benefits in minutes before you commit.

How do I enroll in the Frisco IOP?

Call (866) 955-2481 to schedule your intake assessment. Our admissions team answers seven days a week, and assessments can usually be set the same day or the next day. After your intake, you join the next virtual evening session on a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.

Can I join the Frisco virtual IOP from outside Frisco?

Every session is online, you can join from anywhere in Texas with outpatient mental health benefits on your plan. That includes patients across Collin County (Plano, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, Little Elm) and the broader north DFW area, as well as anyone traveling for work. The sessions are the same group and counselor no matter where you log in that evening.

Is a virtual IOP as effective as in-person treatment?

For many people, yes it is. You get the same nine hours of counseling a week, the same licensed counselor, and the same small group every session. Joining from home also makes it easier to keep going around a full workday in north DFW.

Do I ever need to come to The Star in person for the virtual IOP?

Come to our clinic at The Star only for your intake assessment and any medication visits. The IOP groups themselves are fully online. Once you are set up, you join every session from home.

Can college students in Collin County join the evening IOP?

Yes. The 5:30 PM to 8:45 PM schedule works around daytime classes and part-time jobs, so students at Collin College and nearby campuses can keep up with school while getting nine hours of counseling a week.

Helping a Loved One Find an IOP in Frisco?

If someone you love is not ready to commit yet, you do not have to push. We can explain how the virtual IOP works and help you find the right moment to bring it up.
